Benjamin Henry Latrobe

This c. 1815 portrait  of Benjamin Henry Latrobe by Rembrandt Peale hangs in the Museum of the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore, Maryland. 

"Few architects influenced the history of American architecture like Benjamin Henry Latrobe. Educated in Moravian schools in Europe and trained as an architect and engineer in England, Latrobe emigrated to the United States in 1795. Best known for his design of the Capitol and work on Madison's White House in Washington, D.C., Latrobe later came to Baltimore, creating the Basilica of the Assumption, the nation's first Catholic cathedral, and the monumental Baltimore Exchange." - Maryland Historical Society
