Cixi

The Empress Dowager Cixi
慈禧太后

This c. 1908 hanging scroll portrait of the Dowager Empress Cixi probably by court painters is currently on display at the Sackler Gallery in Washington, DC. It belongs to the Palace Museum in Beijing and is said to be the "official" imperial portrait of Cixi.

Her hands are hidden in her sleeves, hiding her long fingernails.
