Mrs. Davies Davenport


This c. 1782-1784 portrait of Mrs. Davies Davenport by George Romney hangs in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
"Painted for the sitter's husband, Davies Davenport [1757-1837], Capesthorne, Macclesfield, Cheshire." -- National Gallery of Art
Davies Davenport (1757-1837) was Sheriff of Cheshire between 1783 and 1744, Major of the  Cheshire militia in 1997, Lieutenant Colonel and commandant of the Macclesfield Foresters in 1803 and a Member of Parliament from 1806 until he died in 1837.
